  • TISS and Human Resource Ministry join efforts to upgrade BEd curriculumTata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) along with state and central governments is working on upgrading the existing curriculum of B Ed. This will help in improving the quality of teachers in India. The report will be submitted to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for consideration. “The need of the hour is a revamped BEd curriculum. A panel with eminent academicians has been constituted to help redesign the syllabus in consultation with various state governments. We are also informally consulting the MHRD,” said TISS director S Parasuraman.

Shena Aggarwal is from Delhi. Rukmini Riar secured second place. Prince Dhawan came third. Prince Dhawan has completed Master of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2011 was conducted on June 12. As many as 4,72,290 candidates applied for this examination, out of which 2,43,003 wrote the test.

  • IIT-JEE Answer Sheets to be Published OnlineIndian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) committee has decided to publish the checked optical response sheets (ORS) of every candidate. The answer scripts will be made available on JEE’s official website: http://jee.iitm.ac.in/. The answer scripts will be made available from Saturday i.e. May 5, 2012. Through this bold step of committee, candidates will be able to see their answers and analyze the correct responses and individual scores on the JEE website.

  • Anand Mahindra will be IIM-Indore’s next Chairman Anand Mahindra, the managing director of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Anand Mahindra has been nominated as new chairman of Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I). Jhunjhunwala had succeeded Bharat Forge Ltd chairman B N Kalyani as IIM-I chairman in 2007. Appointment of new chairman is done through the ministry and the matter is further discussed in meeting of the board of governors. Subsequently, appointment is confirmed. There are 16 members in the board of governors in the institute and 15 in the society of the institute.

  • Haryana Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal informed that Haryana government has decided not to appoint teachers on contractual basis. “Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda ordered that the appointment of teachers would be made on regular basis and not on contractual basis in the state," Bhukkal informed. Haryana government has given approval for amendment in the Haryana Education Rules regarding this matter. Now the state will appoint teachers on regular basis, that will lay foundation for quality education in Haryana state.

  • IIT Bill passed by Parliament, now students to get degrees by IITParliament has passed a bill that will make way for existing six IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) to grant degrees to the engineers that pass out. The Institute of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2010, along with the National Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2010, was passed by the Rajya Sabha by voice vote Monday. Both the bills have already been passed by the Lok Sabha. The bills were pending in the Rajya Sabha.
