Subarnarekha Mahavidyalaya is situated in a picturesque and echo friendly environment on the banks of golden river “Subarnarekha” in Jhargram Sub-Division of Pashchim Medinipur. As there was no scope of higher education within a radius of 45Kms. The intellectual polity and such learners of higher education began dreaming of an institution of higher education and it was due to their endeavor and hard labour which bare fruit in the farm of Subarnarekha Mahavidyalaya which was established on 7th September 1986 on the land donated by Nayabasan Janakalyan Vidyapeeth. The College started functioning from 1st July 1988 only with B.Com. After getting approval from the State Govt.University and U.G.C. Peoples from all walks of life donated generously for construction of its building.

The college is marching forward with financial help from honorable M.R., M.L.A and well wishers. The college can now boast of producing graduates in all the three streams viz. Arts, Science and Commerce. The college imparts education only during the Day section. This college has produced many graduates who are now well established in life. The college hopes to reach the pinnacle but this is only possible with the active and whole hearted support from peoples of all spheres. The college with its limited resources will try its best and with utmost care in the progress and promotion of higher education.
