Haldia Institute of Technology established in the year 1995-96 is the first privately initiated (with Govt. aid) degree Engineering College in this State. It has emerged as the biggest private Engineering College in Eastern India. In the year 1971, some generous personalities of Kharagpur came forward to establish a composite Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital in the central part of this town to cater the needs of the distressed humanity and of those thirsting for knowledge in Homoeopathy. The Midnapore Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital was established in the year 1945, on 3rd Dec, the auspicious birthday of Sahid Kshudiram, the first sacrificed soul of Indian Freedom Movement.
