Vel Tech Dr RR & Dr SR Technical University (Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr.Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, commonly referred to as Vel Tech University) is located in Avadi , Chennai. It was established in the year 1997 by philanthropists Dr R. Rangarajan and Dr Sagunthala Rangarajan. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering and technology along with Master of Business Administration.

Vel Tech was initially constituted in 1997 as an engineering college affiliated to the University of Madras, with courses in computer science & engineering, electronics & communication engineering and electrical & electronics engineering. From 2001 the college was affiliated to Anna University. Most of its programmes were accredited by National Board of Accreditation. The college was recognised as a deemed university in 2008.

In December 2015 the university was accredited with an "A" grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
