Located in Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna Government Post Graduate College Agastyamuni, Rudraprayag Uttarakhand was established on Oct. 10, 1974. This college was given permanent affiliation in six subjects namely Hindi, English, Sanskrit, History, Economics and Political Science. Sanction of the Philosophy and Geography subjects at UG Arts , Science faculty UG in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany and PG in Economics, Political Science & Hindi was received from Uttar Pradesh Government in 1979 and classes started from the next session in 1980. This college is already included in the list of colleges under section 2 f and 12 B of the UGC Act. 1956. Accordingly this college was declared suitable for receiving assistance from UGC and other central source in terms of rules framed under section 12 B of UGC Act., This college is located in the hilly tract of interior rural area in district Rudraprayag and it is situated on the bank of river MANDAKINI. The College is surrounded by number of villages and hamlets. This institution is catering to the needs of rural students who are passionate to receive higher education. This institution is also imparting higher education to those students who lack resources and adequate facilities but fascinate to pursue higher education. The unique feature of this college is that it is offering its services to the students at manageable cost near their proximity even in the present era of high cost education/living. This college is running effectively for more than three decades where scanty resources and infrastructural bottlenecks are placing challenges at each and every step., Geography and English at PG Arts level & Mathematics at PG Arts/Science level was started in 2001. A self funded three years ADSE computer course was started by the Uttarakhand Government under project SHIKHER in collaboration with APTECH. Government of Uttarakhand sanctioned COMMERCE faculty at UG level, Sociology and Home Science subject at UG Arts level along with two self finance vocational courses / professional courses namely diploma in ECO TOURISM & diploma in NURSURY and ORCHARD MANAGEMENT in 2004. MSc Zoology, Botany, Chemistry and Physics with a capacity of 10 seats in each subject, a self finance BEd course with a capacity of 100 seats was started in 2008. One MSc batch 2009-11 and two BEd batches 2008-09 & 2009-10 have successfully completed the courses., In this Institution, individual attention is being paid to each and every student, resulting in enrolment of new students multiplied impressively in the last some years, which is quite encouraging. Proximity to the students has a greater chance of interaction leading to a harmonious and healthy environment within the premise of our college and outside. Remedial advice is being given to needy students and special attention is being given for the betterment of brilliant students., Teachers follow all sorts of pedagogical techniques such as application of psychological principles, using game oriented methods, using examples from local setting, as well as increasing their participation in the whole teaching scheme etc to involve the students in the learning process. All-time accessibility of teachers provides opportunity to the students to share their problem in all spheres of life and getting proper advice. A Career & Counseling Cell is being operating through the initiative of Lectures itself, which is virtually running as an employment cell., To augment the facilities and improve reading/learning habits among the students, it is necessary to enhance the existing facilities in the college. Books and Journals, computers, information link such as internet connectivity, Reading room, seminar hall, recreational facilities, play ground, resources for educational excursions and better physical environment etc are the important parts of the whole educational edifice. The availability of these facilities would help in enhancing the visionary quality of students and teachers. Lack of such resources and facilities tend to reduce the growth potential of faculty members that ultimately can not encourage the interest of students, who can be benefited more by the guidance of updated teachers., Institutions like the UGC conduct Orientation and Refresher Courses and Uttarakhand government’s Faculty Development Programs keep the teaching faculty abreast with the latest development in the various disciplines. Time to time teaching staff of this college is benefited by these courses. Faculty members of our college are participating in national and international conferences, seminars and workshops and presenting their research work. They are also publishing their research papers in national and international journals and edited books., In the whole the A.P.B. Government Post Graduate College Agastyamuni, Rudraprayag is providing higher education in hilly remote region, to those who are lacking of resources and facilities., Vision, To convert Uttarakhand into a model state which promotes a very high level of educational attainments for its population in the field of arts, science and culture.
