Department of Statistics

The Department of Statistics came into existence in the year 1988 with the aim of providing quality education in the field of Statistics; to develop the subject of Statistics with its application and usefulness to the society; to provide qualified Statisticians for the Economic, Social, Administrative, Planning and Academic Development of Society. Presently, the thrust areas where research is undertaken in the department are Econometrics, Reliability, Information Theory, Population studies and Statistical Inference. The students undergoing Master's and Ph.D. in Statistics have a bright future with a lot of employment opportunities available in public sectors like Planning, Administration, Information Technology and Research and in private sectors like Quality Control, Actuarial Sciences, and Management etc. The department has been marching ahead in the direction of excellence in teaching and research and is committed to keep its march towards this end. The strength of the Department, however, lies in its continual search for excellence and for its endeavor to adapt itself to the changing scenario of Statistics as a subject and to keep abreast with the best in the emerging fields.
