Located in Holy Cross College, Agartala, has the distinction of being the first Catholic English Medium College in the state of Tripura, northeast India. It was founded in 2009 by the Congregation of Holy Cross and provisionally affiliated to Tripura University (a Central University). It began to function on July 8th 2009 with the starting of classes for BA and BCA, even though the official inauguration took place on August 10, 2009. Presently it offers undergraduate courses in BSc, BA, BBA, & BCA and the medium of instruction is English. Holy Cross College is a private Catholic institution of higher learning founded, animated and enlivened by the Congregation of Holy Cross, a community of scholarship and faith, anchored by a belief in the inherent dignity of each person. This institution provides opportunities of scholarship for academically qualified high school graduates predominantly from the state of Tripura and the northeastern region of India. It is a co- educational institution of higher learning in the traditions of the Congregation of Holy Cross with a clear focus on ‘holistic education’, educating the hearts and minds of the young., The aim and vision of Holy Cross College is to create integrated global citizens and world class professionals, who will work for a more just, equitable and compassionate society. Through its curriculum of arts, sciences, and professional programs, Holy Cross College provides education of highest caliber that fosters critical thinking, free inquiry and constructive exchange of ideas. Blessed Basil Moreau the founder of the community of Holy Cross was an educator with very definite ideas about teaching and learning and about curriculum in terms of both content and methodology. He wrote, “I have always been convinced that the first duty of every teacher is to produce good human beings; society has a greater need for people of values than it has for scholars. Knowledge itself does not bring about positive values, but positive values do influence knowledge and put it to a good use.”, Holy Cross College welcomes academically qualified high school graduates, regardless of ethnicity, gender, culture, castes and beliefs. It strives to educate students in a cultural environment of peace, emotional environment of healing, and educational environment of excellence to enhance the economic and social welfare of the region.
