The college has been approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, State Board of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu and is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The college is in its Ninth year of inception. Buildings and amenities for the college have been established in a permanent structure spanning more than 2,50,000 square feet. adjacent to HYUNDAI Car Factory.

The college believes in higher qualification for Faculty. Accordingly, SMEC has distinguished faculties having Ph.Ds', MEs' and Mphils' with a wonderful track record from various renowned institutions and industries. The faculty members are entrusted with the task of imparting technology, trouble-shooting ability to better a) Understanding, b) Connection. c) Correlation and above all innovation, rendering the students brim with confidence and being able to believe in themselves. The college is located on Chennai Bangalore Highway, Poonamallee - Sriperumbudur stretch, around 5 Kilometer from Poonamallee, just near to HYUNDAI CAR FACTORY, the famous international automobile manufacturer. Poonamallee is well connected from Chennai and is just 10 KM from the city centre. This is an ideal location, serene, pollution-free, noise-free and just the place for learning to happen. The college plies many buses from various parts of the city. The number of buses have been consistently incresing keeping in pace with the increase in the intake of the students. The institution is also easily reachable from Poonamallee by city buses. The bus drivers are courteous and make the students to reach the college on time.The college has fully furnished separate Hostel blocks for boys and girls. Air Conditioned rooms are also available. Water heaters are installed to provide hot water 24 hours.
The students are provided with well lit rooms which enable them to have an undisturbed atmosphere to study. Our hostel provides a homely atmosphere for its inmates. Faculties coming from very far distance are provided with very good facilities in the hostel.A Mess Hall with a capacity of 500 members enable & all students and staff to dine at the same time. A large kitchen with steam cooking is attached to mess hall. Both Veg. and Non-Veg. food are provided. All students (Hostlers as well as Day-Scholars) and staff members are provided lunch, tea and snacks every day. The mess serves delicious during college functions and festival days. The food provided by the college mess is nutrious, hygenic and a varity of south indian and north indian cuisines.
