About Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot
Guru Gobind Singh Medical College is a school of medicine located in Faridkot, Punjab, India. Established in 1973, it is one of the oldest medical institutes of Punjab State. Giani Zail Singh, president of India (1982-1987) was one the few people involved in bringing the medical college to the Faridkot city. He was the Chief minister of Punjab in 1972-1977. During this time, he approached a local Tehsildar and asked his advice to allocate an area for the medical College. The Tehsiladar at that time was Joginder Singh Brar who was a resident of faridkot and belonged to village Jeon Wala, near Kotkapura. The Tehsiladar then carved out a plan and area for the new medical college which was promptly acknowledged by the CM of Punjab. The first batch came to GGS Medical College Faridkot during the year 1973 for MBBS course. Since then this medical College has trained a over 50 Brilliant doctors each year. The courses are still increasing. The city of Faridkot and people of this area are very thankful to the Smart Vision of The Chief Minister, Giani Zail Singh and the Tehsildar, Mr Joginder Singh Brar. The 7th President of India Giani Zail Singh Died on December 25, 1994 and The Tehsildar, Mr Joginder Singh Brar Died on October 28, 2005 in Faridkot. Their memories are still alive in the form of the work they have done for the community.Courses Offered
