Department Of Economics

The Department of Economics was established in the year 2005. The Government of Tamil Nadu was very keen to set up this Department in this University to cater to the needs of the students in this backward region.

Courses Offered :

=> M.A. Economics
=> M.Phil. Economics
=> Ph.D. Economics

Activities :

=> Collaboration with the District Rural Development Agency, Government of Tamil Nadu for Integrated Rural Energy programme in Salem district.
=> Coconut Development Board, Government of India. Statistical Survey for Concurrent Estimation of Coconut Production in Dharmapurai and Krishnagiri Districts.
=> National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad conducted survey on Impact of Women Empowerment in National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Tamil Nadu.
=> Nirmal Gram Puraskar Conducted by SEVA Society of the Department of Water and Sanitation, GOI, New Delhi. Survey conducted in Salem and Thanjavur District.

Facility :

Library :
The Department Library has 2100 reference documents, and more than 100 research reports. In addition to our students and staff, researchers from outside institutions refer these documents.

Computer :
The Department is equipped with more than 20 computers with internet connectivity. Both the students and teachers use the computers.

Smartclass Room :
With the funding from the State Government, a Smart Class Room is being established. This will be used for conducting regular classes and for organising seminars and special lectures.

Gold Medal :
The Department of Economics provides six Gold Medals every year for outstanding students of PG Degree in Economics.The following Entrepreneurs have instituted gold medals for meritorious Students in Economics.
