Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology established in the year 1997. It has 60 students in two semesters in two semester classes and 7 Ph.D. registered scholars. The major thrust areas of research includes, Naga society and culture, Women in the North East: Emerging voices, Cross border trade in North East India etc. A centre for Tribal Studies has been formally opened and it is attached to Sociology Department, with the HoD also as Acting Director. The Department has produced several students who have passed the NET examination and also JRF.
Vision of the Department
Sociology as a central subject of all social science discipline having well established methods based on sound sociological theories has a lot of scope to act as a driving force of academic excellence through inter-disciplinary approach.
Within ten years our general focus will be towards South Asia, keeping in view that North East India as a main focus in line with India “Look East Policy” giving special attention to Nagaland and its Frontiers.
