The Department started its regular function in 1960 under the headship of Dr. Amarnath Pandey. Postgraduate classes started from the session 1970- 1971. Postgraduate teaching includes specializations in Sanskrit Literature, Veda and Philosophy. The departmentenrolls research scholars for Ph.D. and D.Lit. degree also.
