It was the vision of Shri K.J. Somaiya that modern professional education must remain true to the spirit of Indian ethos and culture. He insisted on value-based education, believing firmly that a community uncaring for its traditions is decadent and insubstantial. He was passionate about propagating the Sanskrit language and the promotion of studies in ancient Indian thought and culture. He envisaged Somaiya Vidyavihar as the modern-day Nalanda University where students and teachers would live in an intellectual and spiritual fellowship.

Located in the sylvan surroundings of the Somaiya Vidyavihar, stands the temple of learning, the K.J.Somaiya College of Arts & Commerce. This college was established in 1960, since then emerged as on one of the best degrees colleges in the country.

It is the Pioneering Institution of Somaiya Vidyavihar, established in 1960. The college is permanently affiliated to the University of Mumbai and the U.G.C. (2f & 12b), Delhi. It is the largest institution in the Campus in its width (Number of students) and depth (Junior to Doctoral). The college has been ranked as one of the Top Five Best Colleges in Mumbai. It also fins place in the top 50 colleges for commerce studies in India.
