Textiles and Apparel Designing is one of the important disciplines of Home Sciences. With the inception of the college in 1966, the courses of the discipline have been an integral part of the undergraduate programme. In 1970 the area emerged as a separate department of the college. Initially, the department offered courses only to undergraduate programme. The Post Graduate programme in the discipline was introduced in the year 1984. The Ph.D Programme by course work has been initiated from July 2009.
The department of Textiles and Apparel Designing has established Apparel Production Management centre for
Experiential Learning and Hands on Training for Undergraduate students of 2+2 of B.Sc. (Home Science)
programme. The broad objective is to provide interactive learning experience in apparel production and generation of human resource to promote employment opportunities and entrepreneurial abilities through integration of basic knowledge and experiential learning. The experiential learning centre has been designed
and developed with prime focus to provide industrial working environment to the vocational students in the three sub units namely, Design Studio, Apparel Production Unit and Retail Unit to accomplish the objective of experiential learning. The Students during In plant training undertake individual theme based projects after market survey and present their creative outputs through e-portfolio and window display highlighting
designed products of apparel and household use along with production techniques ,marketing strategies , finance management etc.
