Admission Notices

St. Albert’s College, started in 1946 is an accredited first grade Arts, Science and Commerce College affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India. With twelve degree courses, nine postgraduate courses and five research centres, the institution is well acclaimed for its academic excellence and is a name to reckon with in the sports, literary and extra-curricular fields. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the College at the A level with an aggregate score of 3.23.

The college owes its origin to the farsightedness and vision of its founder patron, Most Rev Dr Joseph Attippetty, the first Indian Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Verapoly.

Greatly concerned by the lack of educational facilities for the members of his diocese, His Grace ventured upon the mission of starting a new college at Ernakulam, the then capital of the Former State of Cochin. His efforts bore fruit in 1946 when the University of Madras accorded sanction to His Grace for starting a second grade college.

The college began functioning on 16th of July, 1946, in the old St.Albert’s High School building, situated in front of the present college campus with 150 students in the first year intermediate class.

Years have gone by. Long strides have been taken by the college in its development. Today under the patronage of His Grace Dr.Daniel Acharuparambil, St.Albert’s College is a front runner First Grade College functioning under the Mahatma Gandhi University.

Bachelor of Science in Physics –3 years
Physics (Main), Mathematics (Subsidiary 1), Chemistry (Subsidiary 2)

Physics is the world’s best-kept secret. Unlike other subjects, Physics is not about memorizing large amounts of information and regurgitating it for exams. Physics is about having a real feel for the way the world works.

It's about finding fascination in everything around you but also about being able to explain what’s behind some amazing phenomena. It’s a cliché but it's true that Physics covers everything from the tiniest fundamental particles to the vastness of the universe – there’s definitely something in it for everyone.

Today’s physics graduates offer specific subject-based knowledge and skills, together with a wide range of general skills, including mathematical and computational ability, electronics, verbal and written communication, data analysis, word-processing and so on.

Major employers are high technology and related industries, including electronics, optics, aerospace, computation and nuclear technology; physicists work in research, in development, and in general production.

Other opportunities in both industry and government establishments are in such field as medical physics and biophysics, geophysics, information technology, safety, and environmental monitoring.

The sustainable management of our natural resources is one of the most challenging issues facing the modern world.

The decline in global fish stocks, over exploitation of marine as well as freshwater fishery resources for use in livestock and poultry feeds, endangering of species through ecological threats, pollutants and habitat destructions are now issues of both national as well as international concern. These pose a serious threat to fish supply and while natural levels of fish stock continue to decline, human demand for seafood continue to grow at an alarming rate.

As a result, the requirement for the production of farmed or cultured fish is expected to rise sharply in the new millennium. The rapidly growing fisheries and aquaculture industry both in India, South Asia as well as other regions of the world requires graduate and post-graduates with a combination of relevant biological, technical, managerial and marketing skills.

The academic programs at the department of Aquaculture, Fisheries and Biochemistry at St. Albert’s College emphasizes the integration of knowledge and skills from these fields.

These courses provide a foundation for a career in a number of key areas including local, national as well as international agencies, private companies and the Government. It will also provide students with opportunities to develop a career in academia and research.

Microbes are a diverse and fascinating group of organisms and without them there would be no other life on this planet. They are also the most vital of living things – they grow faster than other organisms and are capable of the most rapid evolution.

The variety and adaptability of microbes makes life very interesting for scientists and ensures that there will always be a need for microbiologists to combat or exploit the latest arrival on the microbial scene.

Modern microbiology is a highly diverse subject and microbiologists need the skills of biochemistry, genetics and immunology. This also makes microbiologists very adaptable and greatly enhances their employment prospects.

Our courses will provide you with a broad foundation of modern microbiology. You will study both fundamental and applied aspects of microbiology, dealing with biochemical, physiological, environmental, immunological and taxonomic aspects of bacteriology, mycology and virology. Throughout the courses we place great emphasis on the development of good microbiological practice.
