Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology (AIT) was established in 1980 at Chikmagalur (240 km from Bangalore), with the blessings of revered Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Balagangadharanatha Maha Swamiji, pontiff, of Sri Adichunchanagiri Maha Samsthana Math. Chikmagalur city is 30 kms from the world- famous sculpture Belur Temple. The renowned temple of Sringeri Sharadamba and Sri Shankaracharya Mutt is just 100 kms away. The nearest railway station is at Kadur (40 kms away). Spread out over 65 acres of land with green surroundings and picturesque hillocks, the college has conducive atmosphere for education. The weather is salubrious and pleasant through out the year. Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology (AIT) is one of the engineering colleges in Karnataka, India under the VTU (Visveswaraiah Technological University). It was founded in 1980 by the Sri Adichunchanagiri Maha Samsthana Math. This college was started under the University of Mysore , Four Year Scheme (FYS), which was later in 1989 called as the Revised Four Year Scheme (RFYS). In 1991 This college was affiliated to Kuvempu University. AIT College's present Principal is Dr. C K Subbaraya. AIT college is accredited by the National Board of Accredition

The Institute is located in the famous Chickmagalur city which is 240 kms from Bangalore, capital of Karnataka and well connected by bus routes to all the major cities and towns of the state. The nearest railway station is at Kadur (or Birur) on Bangalore - Bombay broad guage line, which is 35 kms away. Chickmagalur is reasonably cool and pleasant for major part of the year.
