Govt. Degree College Thannamandi was established in May 2005 under Prime Minister reconstruction programme vide Govt. Order No: 28-HE of 2005, dated 09-03-2005 with one faculty member, one Junior Assistant and one Peon in a three rooms accommodation in Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School ThannaMandi., It has come a long way in excelling in academics, curricular and co-curricular activities within the short span of 11 years of its inception in 2005. With 47 students in the year 2005 having only one subject combination of English, Applied Mathematics, Computer Application and Urdu, presently the college is catering knowledge in 19 subjects of both sciences as well as arts streams in a beautiful college campus lying on left side of Thanna- Shahdra road., During August 2010, the College got affiliation with UGC, New Delhi under section 2 F and 12 B of UGC Act., Till date, students of this college have secured two first positions, one 5th position, one 2nd position, one 8th positions and one 10th position in B.A.in University results. Four Ist positions and three third positions were bagged by the students of this college. In provincial level mathematical competitions conducted by the University of Jammu and BGSB University Rajouri Two Ist position, one second position and five 3rd position from Jammu University and two Ist position and one 3rd position from BGSB University. First consolation position was also bagged by a student of this college in the similar mathematical competition conducted by GDC Ramnagar. The college has also got one Centre of Regional Mathematical Olympiad through which a student can show his/her talent in mathematics up to international level. In culture activities and sports, students of the college participated in several events organized in Jammu University/BGSB University and different colleges and brought several prizes and gold medals, silver medals and bronze medals. One student of the college has participated in RD parade 2016 in New Delhi., The college has well developed play fields, a gymnasium, Bus facility for the students, girls common room, Career Counseling Cell etc. The college is approaching in direction to be a fully digital college. College has internet facilities and CCTV Camras, a Conference room with 60 person's capacity for PP presentations, well furnished/developed computer lab, Edu sat facility and smart class room facility for power point presentations. Moreover, the college organizes different sporting events from time to time and students are encouraged to take part in sporting events held across the state. The college has its fixed academic calendar and in addition to routine academic activities, the College Conducts local and regional level symposiums, seminars and workshops on different themes including scientific and moral themes. The College has its Magazine “The Flight” and News Letter “THE SHAHDARA”.
