The college campus presents a picturesque view in the backdrop of snow capped Pir Punjjal Mountains in the North, Dhani Dhar Fort a monument in the East. In the West lies the brimming riverine of Darhali Tawi. Historic Rajouri Town lies in the south. Tall poplar trees, bordering the entire campus lend grandeur and glory to it.

It was a landmark day in the history of Pir Panjal region when Government Degree College Rajouri was declared open on 6th of June 1981 by Jammu and Kashmir Government. Right from its inception, the mission of the college has always been empowering this region by providing holistic and secular education. The college caters to the needs of the twin districts of Pir Panjal region Rajouri and Poonch.

Government Degree College Rajouri is located at a small beautiful plateau at village Kheora, three and half kilometers to the north of the City of Kings, Rajouri town. The College campus gives a picturesque look in the backdrop of snow caped Pir-Panjal Mountains of the Middle Himalayas in the far North. A monument, Dhani Dhar Fort, of Mian Hathu's times, lies just to the east. And in the west lies the Darhal Tawi a source tributary of Manawar Tawi; while to its south lies the historic town, Rajouri.

The college is situated at 33.25oN latitudes and 69.30oE longitude. It has been constructed at a plateau spreading its grandeur of buildings, lawns and grounds over almost 100 kanals of land, which houses three separate hostels for boys and girls and staff quarters, an administrative block, lecture halls, well equipped laboratories and a multi-purpose Hall. The College has a rich library having a collection of over 40,000 volumes. Besides, it has two departmental libraries for its PG Department of Chemistry and Computer Application, having about 2,000 books. The latest journals, magazines, periodicals etc., are also subscribed. In addition to the University sub-office, the college has three Distance Education Study Centres for those students who cannot afford to seek regular admission. These study centres are Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU, New Delhi; Directorate of Distance Education DDE, University of Jammu, Jammu and Mualana Azad National Urdu University MANUU, Hyderabad.

The College was accredited with "A" grade by NAAC in 2014. The College has constituted an Internal Quality Assurance Cell IQAC as a post accreditation quality sustenance measure.
