Department of History

History offers the only extensive evidential base for the contemplation and analysis of how societies function, and we need to have some sense of how societies function simply to run our own lives.
Established in the year 1995, the department offers B.A. (Pass Course), B.A. (Honours-Subsidiary) at the Undergraduate level and M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes at the Postgraduate level. The courses offered foster a distinctive approach that combines scholarly interpretations with systematic reflection on the subject taught.

The students benefit from the close supervision of faculty-members who work at the intersection of studies of History of different periods and a vibrant research environment. The Department’s focus is thus on the study of a broad range of culturally significant History of India spanning over a vast period-Ancient, Medieval and Modern along with World History, and an interdisciplinary approach with regard to Women’s Studies and Tourism.
