The department was established in 1958. It is one of the oldest chemistry
departments in the state of Gujarat. Department has been recognized as a Centre of Excellence in Supramolecules and Nanomaterials by Gujarat Council of Science and technology, Gujarat. Covered under UGC Special Assistance Programme (DRS II)in the thrust area of Supramolecules and Nanomaterials and also covered under DST-FIST.
