Government Degree College, Poonch was established on 11th November 1955. It initially started functioning as an intermediate college in the old "Resham Ghar" building which existed near "Mohalla Dungas". Prof.R.L.Bausr, an eminent educationist of our state was its first Principal. In 1961, it was elevated to the status of a degree college and Prof. P.N. Pushap, another great educationist and scholar, headed this institution during its development phase.

The college with its aura of history and heritage dates back to 1905, when His Highness, Maharaja Sir Pratap Singh announced the opening of the college as Prince of Wales College. The academic session started in 2006 in a building provided by Government Degree College for boys Sopore. Our institution i.e. Govt. Degree College Theog, is about thirty two Kilometers away from state capital Shimla. Our college is surrounded by snowbound Himalyan Peaks in all directions.
