The fourth oldest college of undivided Assam, Madhab Choudhury College (M.C.College), Barpeta was established in 1939 in pre-independent India when the entire nation rose united against the colonial rule. Since then the college has been undergoing a relentless process of growth and today is a premier institute of higher learning in North-East India offering higher secondary and degree level education in all the three streams of Arts, Science and Commerce.

LCB College was founded in 1971 as a night college by a group of teachers and operated from the premises of Maligaon Railway Higher Secondary School. At the initial stage it catered mostly to undergraduate working men and women.

Kharupetia College is situated in Kharupetia of Assam. This is a fast developing commercial area under Darrang District. The college was established in 1981. It is granted from the Govt. of Assam. It is affiliated to Gauhati University and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

One of the veritable nerve centres of women's education in north-eastern India, Handique Girls' College was established in 1939, a dream come true for the late Mrs. Rajabala Das, a pioneer in the field of women's education. The patronage and philanthropy of the late Radha Kanta Handique were also largely responsible for giving shape to the first institution for higher education for women, in the undivided state of Assam. Mrs. Rajabala Das also became the founder principal of the college.

The University Law College, established in the year 1948, is a constituent college of the Gauhati University and is the deemed Department of Law. The College is conveniently located at Jalukbari within the Gauhati University Campus.

Dispur College was established in 1978, with classes being held at Gopal Boro Govt. Higher Secondary School in the evening shift with arts faculty only. The founder principal was Sri Ghana Kanta Chetia Phukan. The college came into existence to meet the growing demand for higher education due to the shifting of the capital of Assam from Shillong to Dispur.

Chhaygaon College is situated in Chhaygaon in the Kamrup District of Assam.The Chhaygaon College established in the year 1974 is the most important educational institution in the greater Chhaygaon , the home land of heterogenous racial elements and an economically backward rural area of South Kamrup.

Barpeta Law College was established in the year 1972 and it is the only premier legal institution of Barpeta District imparting 3 years, LLB Degree and 5 Years, BA LLB Honours integrated Degree course. Presently, the college is permanently affiliated to Gauhati University and recognized by Bar Council of India with permanent Principal and qualified teaching staff.

Barama College, Baksa was established in 1971. A co-educational institution, it started initially with one year pre-university program in Arts. Two years later I.e. in 1973 the College was shifted to its present permanent site and Bachelor of Art program was introduce to synchronize the development of the stream. Barama College came under deficit system in 1978 and now is managed by Governing Body.

Tihu College came into existence on July 4, 1963 in a small rural town of Tihu, which was then an agro-based centre of local commerce for the greater Tihu- Sarthebari- Bajali -Dharmapur- Simlaguri area. Under the enthusiastic guidance of three noble and provident visionaries ( DR. Akshay Thakuria, Mr. Lalit Talukdar, Mr. Madhu Pathak) who are by now departed souls, it was established solely on public donation and people’s enthusiastic participation.

Moridhal College is located at Moridhal in Moridhal Gaon Panchayat area under Dhemaji sub-division in the District of Dhemaji, Assam. Established in the year 1988 in an educationally and socio-economically very underdeveloped rural area with the objective of imparting higher education to the first generation learners from the poor and downtrodden families.
