Jamalpur Mahavidyalaya is the dream of the people of the Jamalpur block and the adjoining blocks of Memari, Raina and Dhaniakhali as the rural community here had little scope for getting higher education and had longed for a degree college in the vicinity of Jamalpur for years. The idea for the college was conceived in a convention held in the premises of Jamalpur High School where more than 500 enthusiasts had met with this longing in mind.

Camellia Institute of Engineering and Technology CIET, Bardhaman is approved by AICTE and affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology. During World War II, the apprehension of bombardment of Kolkata endengered exodus of people from the city Kolkata on an alarming scale as a result, the authorities of the big non Governmentt Colleges in Kolkata in a 'dispersal' scheme proposed off-shoots of those colleges in different parts of West Bengal, miles away from the capital of which Katwa was one.

The college commenced its journey from 1957 as an affiliated college of the University of Calcutta. However, it became affiliated to the University of Burdwan in 1960. Presently the college is in a state of transition regarding its affiliation. The college came under the aegis of Kazi Nazrul University on 24th June, 2015.
