Phek College was the brainchild of the people of Phek under the leadership of then Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Shri Lalhuma, lAS and Shri Vejoi Vero, the then Minister of State, Nagaland respectively. During the annual meeting on 28th July, 1981, which was presided over by the then Deputy Commissioner, Phek Shri Lalhuma, the public, government officials and parents unanimously resolved to establish a College in Phek town, which was christined as 'PHEK COLLEGE'.

Dimapur College was started at the initiative of some prominent citizens of the town to provide an opportunity for higher studies to those who could not afford to go outside Dimapur/ Nagaland.
