Zunheboto Govt.College was established as a private College on the 21st of July,1980. It was sponsored and managed by the Sumi Hoho. Lt.Kughato Sukhai , the first and the then President of Sumi Hoho played a pioneering role by not only coming up with the idea of setting up a College, but also in establishing it.But initially,there was no proper fund, no infrastructure and no manpower to run a College.

The establishment of Wangkhao College was the fulfillment of a long-felt want of the people of Mon district as a whole and the entire Konyak community in particular. The cause of establishing a college was spearheaded by the then Konyak Students’ Conference KSC- now the Konyak Students’ Union KSU- through a resolution adopted in their annual conference in the late 1970s.

Peren College was established on 14th April,1987, the outcome of a joint effort of the public leaders, officers and general public with the objective of providing facility of higher Education to the people of Peren District, most of whom are socially,economically and educationally less advantaged and thereby to bring them to frontline society.

Mawlai Presbyterian College was Established in the year 2000. It is a major educa national project of Mawlai Presbyterian Church, a unit of Presbyterian Church of India. It has been affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University. The Mawsynram Border Area College, Mawsynram was founded in 1997.The Mawsynram Border Area College is a recognized college.The college is affiliated to North-Eastern Hill University. MAWSYNRAM BORDER AREA COLLEGE, MAWSYNRAM, is the lone college located in Mawsynram Border Range of Meghalaya, skirting Bangladesh. This educational institution was founded in 1997 by some well-meaning, public spirited individuals to bring the college education within the reach of a common man.

Established on 24th August ,1993 as an initiative by the senior citizens of Tura, to address the issues of Higher Education in Garo Hills, Durama College, a co-educational institution began its journey from the premises of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Tura.

Aiming at fulfilling the long aspirations of the people and students community of Sohra Civil Sub-Division and its surrounding areas, Sohra College was established by the people themselves in 1982. In the first committee for the establishment of Sohra College held on 18.06.1982, members representing from different areas of the subdivision unanimously resolved to open the college with effect from the academic session of 1982-83.

The School of Technology is the largest school in the university with more than 1100 students on roll and in the coming year the roll shall be around 1300 students. The School of Technology SoT comprises more than 20 lecture theatres, 22 modern well established laboratories, workshops, fully networked computer laboratories with internet access of 100MBPS and online power backup for uninterrupted academic work.

Government Degree College Paloura was established at Government Higher Secondary School vide Government Order No. 269-HE of 2007 dated 20-12-2007 and it was decided that College would function in the newly Constructed Block of the school having two Rooms. Professor Vijay Kotwal was the first Nodal Officer of the GDC Paloura and Professor Anil Goel was the first institutional over Head of the College.

Govt. Degree College (Boys) Udhampur was set up in 1961 as a three year degree course in Science & Arts with a pre – university class attached to it. The first batch of 30 students was admitted on 27 June, 1961 and interestingly no. of girls (17) was more than no. of boys (13). The majestic campus of this decades' old college is situated in the outskirts of Udhampur town on a hillock overlooking the Devika, the sacred Ganges of Jammu region.
