- The TNSET would be conducted in the pattern of UGC-NET. Accordingly, the test will consist of two papers as in UGC-NET.
- The test will consist of two papers, Paper I and Paper II. Paper I will be common to all the candidates, while Paper II will be based on the PG subject chosen by the candidates (as given in the TNSET list of subjects). Both the papers are only of objective type and multiple choice questions (MCQ) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. There will be no break between the papers.

Syllabus for TNSET will be the same as in UGC-NET/CSIR-NET. Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Tirunelveli will not send the syllabi to the candidates individually.
The medium of Question Papers (Paper I and Paper II) shall be in Tamil and English except Paper II of language subjects (Tamil, Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Telugu and Urdu).
There is no negative mark for incorrect answers.
