IIT Bhilai is a relatively new institution, having been inaugurated in August 2016. It is one of the many Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Government of India to create centers of excellence for engineering education and research in India.

The institute is currently functioning from a temporary campus located at the Government Engineering College (GEC) Campus in Sejbahar, Raipur. However, a permanent campus is being constructed in Kutelabhata village, Bhilai, District Durg. This new campus is planned to be a self-sustaining residential campus and will be developed in phases over the next 20 years.

Courses Offered
IIT Bhilai offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various engineering disciplines. Here’s a list of the BTech programs currently offered:
- Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
- Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI)
- Electrical Engineering (EE)
- Mechanical Engineering (ME)
- Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering (MSME)
- Mechatronics Engineering (MT)
The institute also offers Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Science (MSc) and Doctoral programs (PhD) in some of these departments.
Eligibility and Admission Process
Admission to IIT Bhilai is based on the candidate’s performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. To be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, a candidate must first qualify the JEE (Main) exam.
Here’s a brief summary of the eligibility criteria:
- One must have secured at least 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD) in Class XII OR
- One must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile in his/her respective Class XII board examination.
The selection process is then carried out through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling based on the candidate’s rank in JEE (Advanced).
