Department of Civil Engineering Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 1979 and has seen twenty–nine springs. The department is headed by Dr S.V.Itti. Most of the Staff members have completed their Post Graduation in different streams of Civil Engineering. Some of the Staff members are pursuing their Ph.D. The Staff members have published their papers in International and National Journals, National and International Conferences. The total Number of publications of the Staff members has crossed 270. The Department is offering one Under Graduate and two Post Graduate Courses The Department is a recognized Center for research by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. Currently five candidates have registered for Ph. D. The Department has well equipped laboratories. The latest surveying equipment like Total Station, Power level, Auto level, Color plotter; NDT equipment like Rebound hammer, Corrosion analyzer, Microcover meter; Highway/pavement quality testing equipment like Road Roughometer, Bitumen core cutter; Environment engineering equipment like Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer; Plate load test, SPT, field CBR etc. in Geo technical engg; Data acquisition systems, X-Y recorder, UTM. CTM etc. in material testing centre. All these modern equipment are used to broaden the level of knowledge of the students. The department is taking up Consultancy Assignments in almost all the fields of Civil Engineering. The major laboratories of department are Geo – Technical Engineering Lab Material Testing Lab Survey Lab Geology Lab Irrigation and Fluid Mechanics Lab Computer Center Center for environmental studies Prototype and Model Testing Lab The Civil Engineering Association (CEA) which was founded in the year 1993 has grown gigantically and is conducting invited lectures, technical tours, technical exhibitions, National Level Workshops / Seminars etc. Here the students learn leadership qualities along with organizing skills. In addition to central library, the Department has its own library with a collection of over 300 Books and 8 Journals.
