The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1979 with the present intake of 120 and Post-Graduate in Design Engineering was established in 1995 with present intake of 25.

Prof. S.C. Pilli is Principal of our Institution. He was Awarded as “Best Engineer – 2008” by Institution of Engineers, Belgaum Local Center.

The Department has well equipped and furnished Laboratories worth of Rs. 80.00 Lakhs. The Department has received the Grants Rs. 25.00 Lakhs from the funding authorities like AICTE, MNES, etc. to establish the Laboratories with latest equipments in the field of CAD/CAM, Metrology, etc. The Department has established ENRGY-PARK funded by MNES, New-Delhi.

The Department has organized National Conferences / seminars, STTP Programs / National Level Paper Presentation activities. The staff has given Invited Guest Lectures.

The Department has established Computer Aided Engineering Lab for I/II Semester Students, worth of Rs. 35.00 Lakhs and it is appreciated by various authorities in particular VTU, Belgaum. And it is First of its Kind in Entire Karnataka State.

The Master of Computer Applications course was started in the year 1998 with an intake of 30 students. The MCA Department is well equipped with a state –of-art Laboratory with 60 Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo Computers. The Department has procured the latest legal software like Oracle 9i, SQL Server 7.0, JAVA and Visual Studio, IBM Rational Seed, Tally 9.0 Gold Package. The final semester students are carrying out their projects in software companies.

The students of MCA are well placed in companies like Wipro Technologies, ITC Infotech Ltd., SIRI Technology, Motorola, and Integra Software.

The department conducts many add-on courses in collaboration with VTU-IBM and IIT-Kanpur to focus on latest technologies in database applications and Object Oriented Technologies.

Established in the year 2000 to meet the ever growing demands for Telecommunication Engineers in this era of mobile communication and applications. Department has 11 well qualified faculty members (01- Prof, 02 - Asst Prof-, 01Sr. Lecturer, 7-Lecturers), and three technical staff. The department has intake of 40.

The Department is currently headed by Prof.H.P.Rajani, who has M.Tech degree from NITK Suratkal and pursuing PhD in VLSI circuits.

The department has well qualified staff in different fields of Electronics & Communication. and Telecommunications

Two faculty members of the department have registered for PhD programme under V.T.U., in the field of VLSI & Biomedical Engineering respectively.

The burning fuel of the department in the journey of its success is skilled staff, who are specialized in the field of Telecommunication, Electronics and VLSI Systems.. Apart from this, all the staff members actively participate in various workshops and present papers in many national & international conferences.

The department has well equipped laboratories to meet the requirements of VTU’s latest syllabus. The laboratory facilities include 35 computers with latest configuration and internet connectivity, Advanced Communication Kits, , Micro-controller (8051) kits,89C61X2 Flash Programmable Evaluation Board, Optical Fiber Communication Kits, Microwave Communication setup, TEXAS (code composer) DSP kits. The latest addition to this is VHDL-Verilog lab equipments which include Universal Multivendor kits with FPGA and CPLD Development Boards and Microstrip components and Microwave sources and receivers.

The department encourages & promotes student activities. The department association 'SATEL' Staff & Students Association for Telecommunication Engineering conducts various cultural, curricular & co-curricular activities for students. The department has its own library to distribute books amongst students. The department undertakes many projects for the social need. Many final year projects are sponsored by KSCST (Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology). The department arranges live demonstrations of the various projects completed by our students.

“VIBRATIONS” an Informal Forum for student activities helps them to develop organizing skills, leadership qualities and management of events.

The department conducts many activities for students to help in Off-Campus Recruitment. Personality Development & Career Guidance courses are regularly conducted every semester/year to motivate the students & prepare them for placement.

The department has excellent placement records, in various companies like Robert Bosch, TCS, INFOSYS, CTS, CARITOR, HCL, Mindtree and WIPRO etc…

The placement Records of the department for the year 2009-10 & 2010-11 batches is extremely satisfactory with a success rate of above 80%.

The students of this department have bagged Championships of VTU in athletics, & have been VTU BLUES in sports & cultural.

The Department of Electrical And Electronic Engineering was established in the year 1979 with an intake of 45 students. The Department is well and well staffed.

It is headed by Prof. A K Shiralkar who has over 24 years of experience.

Out of ten members of faculty six are post graduates. Two have registered for Ph.D. programmes. Three instructors look after the various laboratories. Four helpers assist them. A six member maintenance cell looks after electrical maintenance of entire college.

The department has Electrical Machine Lab, Relays and High Voltage Lab, Measurement Lab, Control System Lab, Microprocessor Lab, Computer and Simulation Lab and Power Electronics Lab. All the labs are well equipped and house in spacious laboratory halls. Latest packages have been procured for regular and advance users.

Vidyut Staff and Student Association (VISSA), advised by a senior faculty, actively promotes academic and cultural activities. Department has a fine record of academic, cultural and sports achievements. Many prizes have been won in project and paper competitions. The department has good placement record. Considerable consultancy service is renders to local industries in the of test and calibration, high voltage testing, energy audit, soil resistivity measurement etc. Department has own lending library with over 700 volumes and ten journals.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in 1986. The department is headed by Prof. Vasantrao T Desai. Our endeavor is to make the CSE Department an important regional and national resource center for the development of computing and IT systems and applications. The department has 19 well qualified faculty members (8 AP’s (5 ME/M. Tech, 1 Ph. D. 1 (Ph.D.), 11 Lecturers). The students of the Department are working on platforms like Mobile Agent, Image Processing, Cryptography and VLSI etc. The students of this department have always found placement in high profile organizations. Average placement for the department has been 80% for the last 3 years. This department has MOU with EMC2 for training of faculty & students in the field of Storage Devices, MOU with Nokia India for training faculty & students in the field of mobile communication. This department is involved in consultancy service to City Corporation, Belgaum. Department is conducting every year for technical symposium under the title of “Cynosure”. The department is Providing facilities like IBM Cloud Computing, E-Vidya video streaming & mail server also established exclusive server room.

The Department provides extensive computing resources for research and education. The department laboratories offer the latest hardware and software, this includes more than 200 high-performance computers. The department maintains specialized servers for Database clients & Linux based workstations including File access servers.

Department of Civil Engineering

Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 1979 and has seen twenty–nine springs. The department is headed by Dr S.V.Itti.

Most of the Staff members have completed their Post Graduation in different streams of Civil Engineering. Some of the Staff members are pursuing their Ph.D. The Staff members have published their papers in International and National Journals, National and International Conferences. The total Number of publications of the Staff members has crossed 270.

The Department is offering one Under Graduate and two Post Graduate Courses

The Department is a recognized Center for research by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. Currently five candidates have registered for Ph. D.

The Department has well equipped laboratories. The latest surveying equipment like Total Station, Power level, Auto level, Color plotter; NDT equipment like Rebound hammer, Corrosion analyzer, Microcover meter; Highway/pavement quality testing equipment like Road Roughometer, Bitumen core cutter; Environment engineering equipment like Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer; Plate load test, SPT, field CBR etc. in Geo technical engg; Data acquisition systems, X-Y recorder, UTM. CTM etc. in material testing centre. All these modern equipment are used to broaden the level of knowledge of the students. The department is taking up Consultancy Assignments in almost all the fields of Civil Engineering.

This new-age department celebrates the Biotechnology revolution. Students are exposed to the advances in molecular biology and its applications in human, animal health, environment and specialty bio-chemical manufacturing. This is a science that touches every aspect of our existence.

Prof. S. C. Mali is heading the department. The dynamic faculty, state-of-the-art laboratories etc., ensure that students are stimulated and excited by the prospect of contributing to the future and benefiting from the experience.

Department of Bio-Medical Engineering at KLESCET was established during 1997. Since its establishment all the staff members have been steering to achieve the best in the field. Well trained faculty members and technical staff continuously put their act together for the upliftment of the students and the department. The department has been a great contributor to the overall growth of the college in all spheres: academics and non-academics.

The department enrolls 30 students every year. Both staff and students presented technical papers at National and International level. Also they have attended various seminars, workshops in the emerging field like Medical Image Processing, Medical Digital Signal Processing, Wireless Sensor Networks and New Trends in Biomedical Instrumentation.

The department has laboratories well equipped both in software and hardware. The department labs include Bio-Signal and Image Processing Lab, Micro controller lab, Bio-Medical Equipment lab, Power Electronics, Analog Circuits lab, Digital Electronics and Microprocessors lab. The parent society owns an ultra modern 1900-bedded hospital where in students are given hands on experience in the hospital.

The department association “Bio-Medical Engineering Students/Staff Technical Association (BESTA)” was formed during 1999. The prime objective of the association has been to encourage and support students and staff members for their overall growth.

The agenda of the association also includes conducting and organizing various events like technical / non-technical seminars, guest lectures, and competitions at various levels. The department also embeds its own library (BESTA Library), which consists of around 810 volumes of various subjects. Every year the department has been adding books of regular subjects and distinct books that has been a prime feature of the library.

INNOVATIVE LEARNING PROCESS IN DEPARTMENT:

The department regularly conducts Emotional Quotient [EQ]/ Intelligent Quotient (IQ) test from experts in that field.

Based on the results of the test the staff orient their teaching methodologies to suit / improve the needs of the students

Based on the result of the EQ / IQ test students with similar traits are formed into various groups and theme based

activity is suggested that includes mini projects, poster presentation contest, essay writing competition & so on. Lot of

focus is given on extra curricular activities.
The department every year conducts motivational talks for the pre – final year students to help them cope up with the
needs of the Industry. Talks are delivered by the experts in the field.
Pre – final year Students are also exposed over a period of 3 to 4 days to the rig ours of the Logical Reasoning and
mental ability to prepare them mentally for the Placement activities.

The Department conducts the “Product Presentation for Newly Formed Companies”. Wherein a class is divided into two

Groups and asked to form a company, Produce a product and market it.
