Department of Social Work

Introduction :
The Department of Social Work runs two programme of studies i.e. MA in Social Work and Research (M. Phil. /Ph.D.) Programme, to prepare students to integrate advanced professional knowledge, values, and skills to practice competently and effectively with systems, to assist diverse client systems on issues of social and economic justice, and to provide leadership in the development of service delivery systems. The Program at Post Graduate level of social work provides an educational experience that prepares students to understand and assess the contexts of professional practice and the behavior of individuals, organizations, and communities, and to apply strategies of change that advance social and economic justice. The Social Work students are prepared to use critical thinking skills, personal and institutional resources, theoretical frameworks, and research to meet the needs of client systems of various types and sizes. The Department has started to work with National and corporate houses, NGOs, Public sector and autonomous organizations, various ministries of the government, different consultancy organizations and reputed academic institutions.

Department of Social Work, CUHP envisage that education will empower students and faculty to be ethical leaders, skilled in both creative and critical thinking, who will stand at the forefront of creating positive change and improving the lives of the most vulnerable members of society by ensuring peace, harmony, dignity, justice and equal opportunities for development of individual, group and communities through planned social work interventions by a committed cadre of professionals.

Mission :
The mission of the Department is to prepare students to integrate advanced professional knowledge, values, and skills from a generalist social work perspective to practice competently and effectively with systems of all sizes, to assist diverse client systems on issues of social and economic justice, and to provide leadership in the development of service delivery systems. The programme provides an educational experience that prepares Masters level social work students to understand and assess the contexts of professional practice and the behavior of individuals, organizations, and communities, and to apply strategies of change that advance social and economic justice. These students are prepared to use critical thinking skills, personal and institutional resources, theoretical frameworks, and research to meet the needs of client systems of various types and sizes.
