Department of Archaeological Museum
The department was established in 1962 with a view to promote teaching and research in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology. It is a postgraduate and Research department. Since its inception, the department has produced so many scholars, of national and international repute well versed in Sanskrit, who contributed significantly in the studies of Ancient Indian History and culture and the history of Southeast Asian countries. To name a few, Acharya Ram Deva, Chandragupta Vedalankar and Jayachandra Vidyalankar, Haridatta Vedalankar, Satyaketu Vidyalankar are among those historians who made immemorial contribution by writing number of books on various aspects of Ancient history and culture of India with their original independent views.
With a prime objective to throw significant light in the history and Archaeology of the region of Hardwar and its surroundings, the department has conducted archaeological survey of various sites of historical importance such as Garhi Shyampur, Kundi Sota, Pandu Shrota, Imli Khera, Sultanpur, Azmeripur and Puranpur, etc.
