The first batch of post graduate students got admitted in the Department of Geography in December 2008. The post graduate course runs in credit based semester system. The course aims to give a comprehensive understanding of the varied fields of physical and human geography which has contemporary relevance. The Department emphasises on applied geography and field work which is adequately supported by laboratory testing and analysis. At present the department has two faculty members in substantial post from various fields of specialization. The department tries to provide a stimulating research and learning environment together with quality teaching by appointing eminent guest faculties from different Universities and Institutions of West Bengal. The Department offers specialisation courses in Applied Geomorphology and Micro-Regional Planning. There are in-house technical supports including computer laboratory with GIS facility, geomorphology and soil laboratory. Students are evaluated through continuous evaluation and end semester examination. The continuous evaluation process includes discussion, presentation, class-tests and assignments. The thrust areas of the department are Geomorphology, Application of Remote Sensing and GIS and Regional Development and Planning.
