The AVR Educational Foundation of Ayurveda (AVREFA) is the Educational and research institution promoted by the ARYA VAIDYA PHARMACY (CBE) LTD., (AVP) which was founded in 1943 by late Arya Vaidyan P.V.Rama Variar, an able physician, scholar, writer and philanthropist. This institution started decades ago, has now grown into leading Ayurvedic house of Southern India with a chain of branches and agencies spread country wide.

The Arya Vaidyan Rama Variar Educational Foundation of Ayurveda was promoted by AVP in the year 1977 to specifically engage in Ayurveda Education and Research. With this objective in mind and with the blessings of H.H. Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakodi Peetam, the first Gurukula model of Ayurveda College was set up in the year 1978.

AVREFA has associated itself with RVS Educational (Trust Rathnavel Subramaniam Educational Trust) in an effort to provide better facilities for the students and staff of the Ayurveda College. RVS is headed ably by Dr. K.V. Kupusamy, its Chairman. RVS has dedicated itself to education in various spheres. Currently the Trust has several Institutions under its roof. Some of which are: RVS Polytechnic, College of Engineering & Technology, College of Arts & Science, Paramedical Colleges, Institute of Management studies & Research etc.

Courses Offered

BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery)
At present the College is offering BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) Course which is of 5 ½ years duration, prescribed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi, which comes under the Department of AYUSH, a Department under the Central Health Ministry. The Course comprises of 4 ½ years of class room study and 1 year of Internship. After satisfactory completion of the CRRI, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (B.A.M.S) degree will be awarded by The T.N.Dr.MGR Medical University.

Post-doctoral Programme (Ph.D.) is also a possibility for the Ayurveda graduates, after which they can guide the students under various Universities for completing their Masters and Post-doctoral programmes.
