Department of Biotechnology
The Department of Biotechnology has been functioning as one of the disciplines of education under the School of Engineering & Technology, Sharda University. In 2009, the Department introduced an extensive B.Tech program in Biotechnology. Special efforts is made to help weaker students by arranging special lectures and related notes. At present, the department is running M.Tech and M.Sc Programmes where students are being exposed to learning and research in principles and concepts of Biochemistry, Industrial Microbiology, Enzyme Technology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Enzyme technology, Thermodynamics, Biochemical Reaction Engineering, Bio-nanotechnology, Bioinformatics, Plant and Animal Biotechnology, etc.
There are four research scholars pursuing their research works under the supervision of senior faculty members. One DBT funded project is running in the department under the supervision of Dr Shahana Majumdar, an Associate Professor. The Department of Biotechnology offers a wide range of research & training opportunities for undergraduate, postgraduate and even at PhD level within the field of specific subject areas including Plant Tissue culture, Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetic, Cancer Biology, Microbiology , Environmental Science, etc.
The emphasis is on practical and research based learning, result oriented research and if required with the collaboration of other universities. All Training & Learning Programmes are mentored by enthusiastic academic and professional staffs of the department in their modern and spacious laboratory under a separate Research & Training Division (RT). Each module for this professional training program is designed according to students’ convenience of timing (from 2 weeks to 10 weeks). The department also organizes inter-departmental research work time to time within Sharda University Campus and industry visit.
