Department of History

The Department of History offers both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses. The Department is also actively engaged in research on various aspects of history.

The Department maintains a well stacked Seminar Library enriched over the years by the contributions of students and teachers. The funds raised from the departmental Reunion of 1983 helped immensely for the enrichment of this library. The holdings include some books which are of rare value. The Department also maintains an Archive where some important old documents, papers and journals are preserved meticulously.

The Department every year organizes a number of special seminars and lectures including Professor Kuruvila Zachariah Memorial Lecture and P.C. Sen Memorial Lecture. In collaboration with the Paschimbanga Itihas Sansad, Kolkata, it organizes every year the Professor S.C. Sarkar Memorial Lecture. The Department also has a long tradition of students seminar. Every year students present research papers at the students seminar. The Department also conducts annually an educational trip to historical places like Udaipur, Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, Ajanta, Ellora, Jabalpur, Murshidabad and so on.
