History, establishment, and foundational achievements

Established in 2009, O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat is an esteemed private university in Sonipat, Haryana, renowned for its academic programs and significant contributions to higher education.

JGU is a non-profit global University established by the Haryana Private Universities (Second Amendment) Act, 2009 at Sonipat, Haryana (NCR of Delhi) through a generous philanthropic initiative of Mr. Naveen Jindal (Chancellor, JGU). The University Grants Commission (UGC) has notified JGU as a private university established by the state legislature of Haryana. JGU and JGLS are recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI). JGU has the following objectives, i.e., fostering global programmes, global curriculum, global research, global collaborations, and global interaction through a global faculty. This will enable India to become a provider of global education and become a leader in the transnational knowledge economy. JGLS offers a five year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programme; a three year LL.B. (Hons.) programme and an LL.M. programme. JGLS has developed international collaborations with Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, New York University School of Law, King's College London, University College, Oxford, United Nations University and several other reputed law schools and universities worldwide. JGLS has outstanding faculty members with stellar academic qualifications and international experience. We have established ten research centres in cutting edge areas of law and policy with a view to creating knowledge and promoting excellence in research. In the current academic year, JGU has established the Jindal Global Business School (JGBS). The vision of JGBS is to impart global business education to equip students, managers and professionals with necessary knowledge, acumen and skills to effectively tackle challenges faced by business and industry. JGBS will offer multi-disciplinary global business education to foster academic excellence, Industry partnerships and global collaborations. JGBS will conduct research, offer global programmes and host international conferences and workshops on issues that affect the corporate world. JGBS will commence its first academic session in August 2010 with a two year MBA programme. This global initiative has received wide spread encouragement and support in India and abroad as reflected in the collaborations and partnerships that have already been established.
