Nagaland College of Education, as it was originally called, was established in 1975, under the initiative of the North-eastern Hill University NEHU, Shillong, and the Government of Nagaland, to cater to the need for qualitative improvement of teachers in the state. In addition to the B.Ed. course, the Under Graduate Teacher Training UGTT Course was also offered in the college from 1976-1992. The college was affiliated to NEHU since inception, until it came under Nagaland University in 1995.
