The Department of Economics at Mother Teresa Women’s University was started in the year 1985. Since inception, the Department endeavours to highlight the need for a strong economic base for women and strives to promote economic empowerment of women through its triple functions of teaching, research and extension activities. In this regard the Department has incorporated gender dimensions in the Economics Curriculum to make the contributions of women to the national economy more visible. Further an array of grass root level surveys and research projects have been carried out with focus on Women, Work and Economy. Community out reach programmes are being launched to integrate women in the process of economic development.
