Located in Amolakchand Mahavidyalaya offers a wide range of under graduate and post graduate programmes. This is a multi faculty college with faculties of science, home science, arts and social sciences and law. There are 10 departments in the science stream viz. Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Electronics and Computer Science. Seven course options are available in the Science faculty. The Arts departments include Music, Literature in English, Hindi & Marathi offering compulsory general English and second languages in Hindi & Marathi. The faculty of Social Sciences has departments in History, Economics, Political Science and Philosophy. There is a self- financing Postgraduate Degree in Mass Communication & Journalism and Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management ., Most of these courses of study are career oriented and offer opportunity for vertical mobility to students within the portals of the same institution. Efforts are afoot to get sanction for a 5 years integrated law programme and postgraduate diploma in taxation. Though the college has provided for vertical mobility of students by starting postgraduate departments in Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce some departments have been forced to close down Post Graduate courses due to lack of students. Currently the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Commerce, English, Hindi, Marathi, Economics, History and Political Science continue to run the Postgraduate programmes. The Amravati University has recognized the departments of Physics and Electronics as centers for research leading to Ph.D. The process of establishment of a virtual learning center in the department of Electronics in collaboration with ISRO is on the anvil., CRITERION II : TEACHING - LEARNING AND EVALUATION, Amolakchand College admits all eligible students seeking admission to this college at the undergraduate and the postgraduate levels. Most students come from rural and semi urban areas. The admission committee finalizes all admission according to university norms. Preferential admission is given to sports persons. The Law faculty gets more number of applicants than seats available. Students are assessed through informal class room interaction in order to guide them in the proper choice of subjects. While the advanced learners are identified and helped through individual guidance offering additional reference books. There is no provision for caring for the academically disadvantaged., The staff is recruited as per university and the State government norms. The staff is required to prepare teaching plans for the entire academic year under the guidance of the head of the department. The principal reviews these plans at the end of each term. The syllabi are unitized as required by the university. The teachers engage extra classes to complete the teaching - learning process. The lecture method is supplemented by use of audio-visual aids such as charts, models, overhead projector, guest lectures, field visits and seminars especially by the departments of science. There are 181 teaching days, 241 working days. The ratio of full-time teachers to part-time teachers is 48:45 which is quite alarming. The college prospectus provides information of the evaluation methods adopted by the college and the university., The college adopts the self appraisal form the Amravati University. The critic by the Principal is also recorded and communicated to the Governing Body., CRITERION III : RESEARCH, CONSULTANCY AND EXTENSION, Involvement in pursuit of research by the staff is one of the stated goals of the management which encourages the staff to conduct research and offers the services of a research committee. Nine staff members have doctoral degree, four are currently involved in part-time research and 8 are M. Phil. holders. One department has a UGC project with a project outlay of Rs. 44,000/-. The department of Electronics & Physics have been recognized as research center/laboratory by Amravati University. The management encourages the staff members to attend conferences, seminars and workshops to get an on - site experience of current trends of research in their subjects., There is no consultancy offered by the college. Participation in extension work is limited to NCC & NSS students. The NCC cadets have won laurels for the college by participating in the National Republic Day Parade consecutively for the past two years. A number of programmes are organized in collaboration with NGOs like Jaycees, Rotary, Lion & Giants. NSS & NCC get a through exposure to the socio-economic conditions of the poor through camps, health and hygiene awareness, adult education, blood donation, environmental awareness and conducting camps for holding diet clinics to counseling..
