Located in Jagadamba Mahavidyalaya run by Shri Jagadamba Vinkar Shikshan Sanstha, Achalpur City was established in 1962 with Arts and Commerce faculties with the noble cause of imparting quality higher education to the students in the historical city of Achalpur and the adjoining rural belt, situated at the foot of Melghat. The hard labouring and visionary weaver community understood the educational need of the region, realized the importance of higher education and took the initiative to establish the college for the promising, poor and students belonging to underprivileged sections of the society. They fought against all the odds to establish the college. It is possibly the rarest of rare example in the history of any educational institution that the founders themselves took pain to build the building of the college by rendering physical services. They showed exemplary vision for growth as well. Science faculty was introduced in the college in 1971 to enable the students of the area to stand in good stead in the era of Science and Technology and to face the challenges ably with their counterparts in urban area. It is said that a journey of thousand miles begin with a single step. Jagadamba Mahavidyalaya started its journey merely with 146 students. The seedling planted by the founders has now turned into a full grown tree, with more than 1600 students under its shade., The college runs UG courses in Arts, commerce (Both Marathi & English Medium) and Science faculties. The college also offers Post Graduate courses in Mathematics, Chemistry, Commerce, History and Economics for the students aspiring for higher studies. In order to equip students with entrepreneurial skills and to encourage them for self employment, the college has also started 4 career oriented courses in Instrumentation, Agricultural Marketing, Fish Culture and Tissue Culture., The college has a rich galaxy of faculties with 23 of them having PhDs in different areas. Some of the teachers have M.Phil degrees. A good number of teachers have completed PG in two different subjects. Thus, the college has expertise available in different subjects. Two of our teachers participated and presented papers at the International Conferences held abroad., The college boasts of a rich central library with more than 40,000 books. In addition to that, some of the departments have their individual departmental libraries. The units like Physical Education and Sports, NCC, NSS, Career Counseling Cell, Placement Cell, Entry in Services, and Equal opportunity Centre organizes various activities for the overall personality development of the students. Facilities such as Girls Hostel, limited free Wi-Fi on the college campus, Network Resource Centre, Student Consumer Cooperative Store, Insurance protection and Canteen are available for students on the college campus., The college feels honoured in carrying forward the rich legacy of its founders and continuing their noble cause of providing quality education to the society and thus, contributing to the nation building process. The college has successfully come through many upheavals only because of the valuable contribution of the Governing Body, Local Management Committee, Teaching and non-teaching staff members and students.
