Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar National Institute of Social Sciences, Indore was established in the year 1988,
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Institute of Social Sciences, dedicated to the memory and ideals of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, was established by the Government of Madhya Pradesh at his birth place, Mhow on 14th November, 1988, to provide facilities for specialized teaching courses, research, extension, sensitization and training in Social Sciences with a focus on the problems of weaker sections including scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, minorities, women and children.The Institute is an autonomous and registered body under the Madhya Pradesh Society's Registration Act, 1973 (44). Primarily, the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Department of Scheduled Castes Welfare funds the Institute and Indian Council of Social Research, New Delhi and other Central and State agencies also provide funds to the Institute in the form of non-recurring grants. The Institute is non-vocational and the working hours are 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. The library of the Institute remains open daily from 9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. and also remains open on Sunday and on all holidays.
The Governing Body is the Supreme Body of the Institute in framing the policy for its governance and has been vested with overall executive and financial powers. His Excellency, the Governor of Madhya Pradesh is the Chairman and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is the Pro-Chairman of the Governing Body. Hon'ble Minister for the Scheduled Castes Welfare, Government of M.P. is the Vice-Chairperson.Eminent Educationists, Social Scientists, Social Workers, Ministers of Scheduled Castes Welfare, Scheduled Tribes Welfare, Other Backward Classes Welfare, Minorities, Women and Child, and senior civil servants of the State including the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretaries of concerning departments are members of the Governing Body.
Management Committee of the Institute is a sub-set of the Governing Body and is chaired by the Hon'ble Minister for the Scheduled Castes Welfare, Government of M.P. and implements the policies and programmes as formulated/decided by the Governing Body. Director General is the academic and administrative head of the Institute and his status is equal to a Vice-chancellor of a university in Madhya Pradesh.
