Govt. Model Science College, a premier institute of science teaching and research, has a long and glorious history of 100 years. Prior to its formal establishment in 1961, it was known as Victoria College, which bifurcated into two centers of education a science college and an arts & commerce college. The college is situated in an urban locale, spreads over an area of about thirty-two acres on Gwalior Jhansi road. Its magnificent campus endows it with a place of pride among renowned institutes. Recognized under 2f and 12b of the U.G.C., it is a government-funded institution. Taking cognizance of the institute’s great strides in the sphere of education the Govt. of M.P. conferred on it the status of a model college in the year 1985. Since then the college has grown into a multi-faceted institute of science education and carved out a place of itself.
Affiliated to Jiwaji University, Gwalior, the college is now offering instruction in UG & PG programmes in difference science disciplines. The total range of programme options available to students is 33 *(14 UG, 11 PG, 01 Diploma & 06 Ph. D.). The post graduate programme is available in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Computer Science, Military Science, Electronics, Microbiology, Biotechnology & Industrial Chemistry. The college is an approved research center of Jiwaji university, Gwalior with adequate infrastructure for running Ph.D. level programmes and registers candidates for Ph.D. degree in six subjects, to add a new dimension to itself the college has introduced PGDCA from to session 2006-07.
The evaluation of the college has largely been based on its internal processes-concern for high quality and academic rigor, and close interaction between the faculty and students. The college has on its roll more than two thousand five hundred students with a faculty of eighty-two qualified permanent teachers supported by 110 non-teaching staff and guest faculties. Being a co-educational institution, it provides a conductive atmosphere for sharing knowledge, information and experience among students. A healthy ration of male / female students in PG programmes reveals a progressive perspective among the educated youth.
The college is adequately equipped with an elaborate infrastructure of a sufficient number of laboratories and classrooms. The college has on its campus – central library, having more than sixty thousand books, a boys hostel, a large playground, a vehicle stand, a well-maintained botanical garden and a Central Computer facility. Seminars / symposia and workshops are frequently organized to keep the staff and the students acquainted with the latest trends and developments in different fields.

The mission of our reputed institution is, therefore, to acquire excellence in science education and research. Modern infrastructural set up gets top priority. It will enhance the research culture and bring the college forward in the national mainstream of science education.
Knowledge is wealth. Empowerment of students through the knowledge of science will enable the institute to visualize the dream of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a great scientist and Hon’ble President of India.
