Local Vidyabhivardhini Sangha Regd. (Barkur Education Society Regd.) at its Golden Jubilee Celebration during 1997 had a dream of starting a First Grade College in Barkur for the benefit of rural youths. But due to financial constraints it could not materialize the same. It got cancelled the affiliation received to start a private First Grade College and requested the Education Department of Government of Karnataka through Department of collegiate Education to sanction a Government First Grade College to Barkur Accordingly, Government sanctioned Government College with B.A. & B.Com. Courses with a condition to the local community to provide all infrastructural facilities.
