Located in Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur popularly known as SIT established in the year 1963, is one among 125 institutions run by Sree Siddaganga Education Society, founded and nurtured by His Holiness Dr. Sree Sree Sivakumara Swamiji, a centenarian. Sree Sree Swamiji is shouldering the onerous responsibility of providing free food, shelter and education to over 9000 children drawn from the poor sections of the society without discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or community at Sree Siddaganga Gurukula. In addition to this, Swamiji receives thousands of pilgrims and devotees every day., SIT campus is spread over 50 acres and the whole area is landscaped and is lush green. Tumkur enjoys the same salubrious climate as that of Bangalore.At the time of inception, the institute was offering only 3 branches namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with a total annual intake of 120.The institute is now offering 12 UG programmes with a total annual intake of 950 and 16 PG Programmes with a total annual intake of 432. 16 departments of the institute are recognised as research centres by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, where students can register for Ph.D. programme and M.Sc. by Research. 204 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. degree in our research centres and so far 55 research scholars have obtained Ph.D. degree from our research centres., All the departments in the institute have well equipped laboratories. The institute has over 2470 computers and are located in 42 Computer Centres which are all networked with fibre optic backbone. Round the clock internet facility is provided to all the Computer Laboratories, Faculty Chambers, Hostels, Class Rooms, through 250 Mbps leased line., The total number of students in the campus is over 4500 and more than 50% of the students stay in seven of our hostels., The institute has 349 well qualified and experienced faculty members out of which 120 are Ph.D. holders and others Master's Degree holders. 80 more faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D. programme in IISc, IITs and other reputed universities., The institute is a beneficiary of the World Bank assisted Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme Phase - I, Phase - II and Centre of Excellence., To empower the youth to become entrepreneurs, the Department of IT, BT and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka selected SIT for establishment of New Age Incubation Centre from 2014., The ministry of MSME, Government of India has recognised the institute as Business Incubator., Vision, To continuously strive for the total development of students by educating them in state-of-the-art-technologies and helping them imbibe professional ethics and societal commitment, so that they emerge as competent professionals to meet the global challenges., Mission, To develop young minds in a learning environment of high academic ambience by synergising spiritual values and technological competence.
