The University is recognised by the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Set up by Act No. 14 of 2002 vide Extraordinary Gazette notification of Government of Himachal Pradesh dated May 23, 2002. Approved by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) of the UGC Act. The University commenced academic activities from July 2002.

The duration of all the above programs are four years(a student can get a maximum of 6 years to complete the same in case of any arrears).
A dual degree program is also offered, wherein a student can do four years of the aforementioned programs and one year of the MBA program at the Jaypee Business School,NOIDA.
CREATECH, Tech Club JUIT
Started in 2004 under the co-ordinatorship of Ganni Ritwik with an aim to thrust technical activities in JUIT. With initial project of designing college’s official website (http://www.juit.ac.in), the club went on to form a team of over 25 members in year 2005 (under the co-ordinatorship of Pramir Jain). It joined forces with JYC (Jaypee youth Club) in year 2006. It was this period that Tech Club reached a spot in official pages of university & was named Createch (CREAtivity + TECHnical) in the year 2006 under the co-ordinatorship of Ankit Mahanot. This period saw a great surge in technical talent in JUIT which forced Createch to open up its sister tributaries of Robotics Club named Nexus & Web Team and start a full fledged Technical Festival (MURIOUS) for the university. Apart from this Createch publishes a bi-annual technical magazine ‘LOGIN’ with an aim to provide a different perspective to what already exists in this universe.

Boarding and related facilities
90% of the total population lives on-campus. On-campus boarding capacity is for up to 1500 students. All rooms are internetworked and are provided with internet access. Single and double rooms are available for lodging with the former being slightly more expensive than the latter. A student is provided witha bed, an almirah, a rack & shelf and a study table. Food at the college mess - Annapurna - is available to students living on-campus without extra payment. Gymnasium facilities are also available.
There are more than 600 IBM Desktops in the academic block available to students in various labs. A UNIX(OS - Sun Solaris 9) lab is also provided with more than 30 thin clients. Laser color and black & white printers are also available.
