In the foothills of Margund and Akahall Naar where river Sindh finds its basin and outlet towards northeast in the District Ganderbal. Government Degree College Kangan was sanction on under the state plan vide GovtOrder no:- 262 HE of 20011 dated 29/06/2011 College was establishe with 60 kanal, 18 Marlas of land. Great Saint "Baba Nizam-din Kayani" commomnly known as 'Baba Nagraee" of Sa-Daat family found his resting place in these Hills which are surrounded by Chtergul in the northeast, Naranag and Gangabal in the southeast while as Sonamarg and Amarnath is among the lofty mountains in the extreme south of District Ganderbal in the West with min towns settled in mighty mountins in the extreme soouth of District Ganderbal in the West with main towns settled in mighty mountains from sonamarg to Ganderbal an Kabgan in the middle. At the estern edged the most famous tourist sport known as Prang. The Institution of Higher leasrning at Kangan was a result of long pending demand of the local populace who from time to time where pressing hard for an Institution of this nature. The rationale was to develop Human Resource of this area with moern know-how which alone is highway to development. The institution thereof was inaugurated with a wish to expose young generation to modern horizons of knowledge. The Zeal for knowledge and the support of Department of Higher Education J&K Governmenty Gradually supplemented a new landscape in the history of the area.The Institution presently stands affiliated with University of Ksashmir vide Government order NO:-Affi-UG-GDCK CDC dated:- 24-08-2012., Right from its inception the College has maintained a very high standard in terms of imparting quality education. The institution presently offers few Social Science and Language subjets with an enrolment of 450 students for undergraduate Courses. The human recourses available in terms of faculty and equally competene non-teaching/administrative staff are potentially competent enough to face all academic and other kinds of complexities. The available facaulty for said courses is of both permanent and contractual.
