Polytechnic Hamirpur was established way back in the year 1963, with three branches namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering to give the much needed impetus to the holistic development of Technical Education. This institute marched ahead in the path of progress to incorporate the branches of Computer Engineering and Information Technology in the years 2000 and 2001 respectively. This institute has not only achieved excellence in the field of Technical Education but has also played a pivotal role in the development of the community., Govt. Polytechnic – Hamirpur is arguably among the best polytechnics of Himachal Pradesh. The city of Hamirpur is well connected with the rest of the country by road. The nearest broad gauge railway line is at Una, Himachal Pradesh which is around 80 Kms from Hamirpur. The campus is spread in an area of approximately 13 Hectares., The curriculum lays emphasis on theoretical technical knowledge as well as on practical hands on experience. Hence the Polytechnic lays strong emphasis on strengthening Industry Institute Linkage by organizing Industry/Field Visits and Expert Lectures. Industry based Project are integral part of all curriculum.
