BIT, Sindri was started as College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 1949 at Patna. After one year it was shifted to Sindri on 17th November 1950 and thus BIT Sindri was born with a Principal, three Professors and sixty Students in a simple ceremony with a cup of tea on the dining table. The institute grew and flourished rapidly during the early days under the dynamic leadership of Prof. D.L.Deshpande, the then Director[1950-61], who is regarded as the architect of the institute.

St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, was started in the Ranchi Jesuit Society, on July 3, 1944. Ever since 1889 and pre-independence era, when many secondary schools were started in Ranchi, the Society felt the need of starting a College. Those days, for higher education, students had to go to Patna or to Kolkata.

IIMM Jamshedpur started way back in 1975, operating from the office of the then Manager Purchase of Tata Steel Mr. H.S. Vazifdar. The prominent team members were Brig. R. Heerjee, Mr. Arnold Mathias and Mr. A. K. Perti. Later the office was shifted to ‘Golmuri Club’ at Tinplate, Golmuri. The Education began at "Golmuri Club" where classes were held till 1994. In 1995 the office shifted to Russi Mody Centre for Excellence under the leadership of Mr. Arnold Mathias and Mr. A. K. Perti.
