The idea of starting a college at Kovilpatti was mooted on 29th April, 1966. G. Venkataswamy Naidu College was born on 30th June, 1966 by the auspices of the G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Charity Trust for Education and Medical Relief. The regular classes commenced with the blessings of the Zamindar of Illayarasanendal Sri K.R. Appaswamy Naidu. The college was formally inaugurated on 17th July, 1966 by Mr.M.Bakthavatsalam, The honorable Chief-Minister of Madras.
