Birbhum Institute of engineering and Technology, the First Engineering College at degree level, in the District of Birbhum, has completed ten glorious years of its existence in the year 2009. The district has been contributing in its own subtle way, toward the overall growth of the state. Eminent personalities from the district, from diverse fields of life, have been catalyzing its development process. Education has always been the prime component of development for the district.

R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital [আর.জি.কর মেডিক্যাল কলেজ & হাসপাতাল] is one of the oldest medical college and hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal in India. It was founded by Dr. Radha Gobinda Kar [ডা. রাধাগোবিন্দ কর] on 20th December, 1916. Formerly it was known as St. Car Michael Medical College [সেন্ট কার মাইকেল মেডিক্যাল কলেজ].[1]

The Bhawanipur Educational Society College was founded in 1966 with the motto “Education For Excellence” through the Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society. Accredited by NAAC and Affiliated to the University of Calcutta, BESC was created under article 30 (1) of the Indian constitution, which guarantees linguistic minorities, such as the Gujarati speaking community in Calcutta, the right to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice.

NSHM School of Hotel Management (NSOHM), one of the pioneer institutes in hospitality education and ranked amongst the best hotel schools of the country, offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Hotel Management that includes operations, culinary arts and chef training with international standards of placement in the hospitality and tourism sector.

National Institute of Fashion Technology Kolkata laid its plinth stone in the year 1995. Murshidabad College of Engineering & Technology, Berahampore has been established in the last academic session 1998-99 under affiliation from the Kalyani University. The College is sponsored by a society. Three branches of Engineering are run in the College at present. The construction work at the permanent site is in progress
